About Shymeoni
Born in Feb 1978 into a family of musicians, writers, linguists, and actors, in Stroud, Gloucestershire, Shymeoni and her four sisters enjoyed a childhood of immense cultural diversity.
She received her education at three different Rudolph Steiner schools accross England and Scotland which added to the richness of her imagination, and then went on to do foundation studies at Hastings college of art and technology. She and her family live in sussex where they have finally settled.
During her twenty's, Shymeoni and long term partner Rob had three children, and wanting to be at home with them when little, did not take up the unconditional offer she received to study fashion and textiles at Middlesex university, London.
Shymeoni has, in the last few years done many things, including managing and helping to set up an organic cafe, living and working with adults with learning disabilities and performing as a vocalist and fiddle player in a folk band.
There has not been a time when Shymeoni was not designing or creating something for a child, friend or home and reading short biography's of fashion designers made her look at her life in a new way, and gave her the courage to follow her deep longing to persue a career in fashion.
The exact reasons for not following her dreams have in the end become the reasons for setting up her business: Shymeoni is totally self taught and wants to help the environment. She is determined to show how quality fabric bound for land fill or damaged vintage clothing can be given a new life.
Vintage clothing can be recreated to fit any change in the trends. There is in fact a whole vintage clothing fashion in its own right and there are some very prestigeous vintage clothing markets. These are a great source of inspiration to her.
Shymeoni is now pleased to be self taught as she hopes this will encourage others to try and save what can so easily be disguarded.
It is hard to imagine the sheer volume of fabric which goes into UK landfill every year: it constitutes almost half of the 2 million tonnes we buy in, an estimated 50% of which is perfectly recyclable.
Shymeoni is working on setting up her online shop and hopes to have it up and running in the near future! The same applies to her blog.
